The Suit - E2: "Memory"

Our memory is a more perfect world than the universe: it gives back life to those who no longer exist.

The tube light was blinking, the majority of the desks were broken and scattered all around the classroom. The overall picture was looking like a horror movie scene. Agnes was heavily gasping after that sprint, she rested her elbow on the teachers’ desk in front of the blackboard. In that dim room, Agnes saw something written on the board, “You shouldn’t!”. Agnes was thinking about the meaning of those words, suddenly she heard a group running towards the room. Three girls storm entered the room, “Among so many rooms in the school, you chose this one for hiding! Oh poor you!”, they said to Agnes. “I will go to the principle if you beat me”, Agnes cried in panic. “Oh! We are so scared”, one girl teased on her comment. “I have to get out of this room”, she murmured and tried to make a speedy exit through those three girls. One girl felled down in that collision and one girl succeeded to grab her by her wrist. “Leave me!”, Agnes yelped and the whole floor was shocked and stared at her. Agnes realized that it was just a bad memory she was thinking about and felt embarrassed afterwhile.

The girl in the front, Zara, got puzzled in this incident, “Weird!”, she said, nodding her head and then left from there. Meanwhile, Agnes felt sick and was about to fall on the floor, “Oooh! You should lose some weight, maybe 1 pound or 2”, a guy, with a mischief smile on his face, hold up Agnes and prevented her from falling. “I need water…. I…..”, Agnes pleaded in a pitty voice. The guy gave her some water from the nearby cubicle and gave her a chair to sit. “Are you alright?”, he asked. “I didn’t mean to …believe me..I..was..”, Agnes continued murmuring. “Relax….take a deep breath”, said the guy to comfort Agnes. She relaxed and took a sip of the water. “I am Allen…..but I don’t think the meeting was that nice”, he said with a smile, looking at Agnes. Her chicks became red, feeling embarrassed after this awful first encounter, “Hi…Agnes Wexler, 1st-year intern”, she replied, after taking a moment to recollect herself. “Welcome to J&L then”, he shook hand with Agnes. Now Allen glanced at Agnes’s ID card, “C102!! That’s the cubicle just beside mine...Come, I’ll take you there”, Allen said prosperously. “Thank you…once again!”, Agnes sighed and get accompanied by Allen towards the cubicle.

Agnes settled her cubicle according to her comfort, “Finally….I am done!”. Feeling exhausted, she stretched arms and seated on her chair. She was admiring her small cubicle, decorated with her favorite stuff - some photos of her with her family, her friends; her favorite paper-weight, borrowed from her father, a pen-holder she made herself while she was in high school, and many others. For quite some time, she was lost in her own thoughts, until someone came by and stood just behind her. It’s Lauren. “My office..now”, he ordered. Entering his office, Agnes met Zara. “Oh, it’s you again….please don’t scream like earlier….I won’t bite”, Zara commented sarcastically. Ignoring her comments, Agnes looked at Lauren, “Yes, Lauren”. “This is your assignment for today, your first assignment”, Lauren passed a file to Agnes. “Both of you go through the details, I want both of you to make a team and complete the assignment jointly”. Zara added desperately, “But, Lauren…”, ”No….no excuses...It’s about our company. Just settle whatever happened you to and get the job done”, stopping Zara he added. Zara sighed, “God! Help!”
